Apple Doodle Cookies (A Family-Favorite Fall Recipe)

Apple Doodle Cookies (A Family-Favorite Fall Recipe)

Every November, these Apple Doodle Cookies are the most-requested treat in my family. They’re everything you love about a classic snickerdoodle — soft, cinnamon-sweet, and rolled in that perfect cinnamon sugar coating — but with a fall twist thanks to a swirl of cozy apple butter.

They’re simple, delicious, and the kind of recipe people ask you to bring every single year. I also included a free printable recipe card you can tuck into any hostess gift or holiday basket.

🍎 Apple Doodle Cookies Recipe

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • ¾ cup butter, melted

  • 1 ¼ cups sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

  • ½ cup apple butter

Cinnamon Sugar Coating

  • ⅓ cup sugar

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Whisk the dry ingredients:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until fully combined and no lumps remain.

  2. Cream the butter and sugar:
In a separate bowl, combine the melted butter and 1 ¼ cups of sugar. Mix until until fully combined.

  3. Add the wet ingredients:
Mix in the eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, and apple butter.

  4. Combine the mixtures:
Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing only until everything is just combined. (Don’t overmix!)

  5. Chill or bake:
Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes for fluffier cookies, or bake right away for a thinner, chewier cookie.

  6. Cinnamon sugar topping:
Scoop the cookies into a rough ball and Dip the top of each cookie into the cinnamon sugar mixture to lightly coat just one side.

  7. Bake:
Place on baking sheet and bake at 350°F for 10 minutes. Remove when the edges are set and the tops look soft — they will finish setting as they cool.
